WLFF/LOTS Dustbin Estate Project 2011

The Cause

This year, WLFF is thrilled to be working with Tolu Sangosanya of the Nigeria based charity, Love On The Streets (LOTS). LOTS work in the “Dustbin Estate” of Ajegunle in Lagos Nigeria. Lagos state is one of the most thriving megacities in the world and as a result living costs, in particular rent, has become unachievable for many. Ajegunle’s “Dustbin Estate” is an active refuse dump in which families on very low incomes have made a permanent home. It is a thriving community with schools, places of worship, salons and restaurants under intolerable conditions.

The Children

For the children of this community, there are many obstacles to academic success. Inadequate nutrition and poor living conditions often impact on their physical development. More importantly they are unable to attend schools which give quality education due to lack of funds. In many families, children are unable to attend school at all, with the area having a low level of literacy overall.

LOTS Charity!

LOTS Charity was founded by Tolu to provide a source of much needed care, love and education to the children of Dustbin Village. This non-profit organisation provides days out, Christmas parties, cinema trips and most importantly a free Educational Resource Center.

This amazing resource center provides daily meals for over 100 children, teaches them literacy, numeracy, computer skills, enrols them in reading competitions, teaches them basic hygiene skills, provides a library - you see what we mean when we say they are amazing!

So how can YOU help?

WLFF visited the LOTS resource centre in 2011 to see first hand the great work they are doing and are committed to working with LOTS to enable the children achieve even more! WLFF is raising funds in 2011 for a sponsorship program to follow a couple of children through 6 years of secondary school. We are also raising funds to provide educational resources for the resource center.

WLFF is holding a fundraising ball on 1st October 2011 at the 4* Hotel Russell in London.
